Compton’s Three-Run Blast Powers No. 5 Wichita State Past No. 8 Tulsa in American Softball Championship

TAMPA, Fla. – A three-run home run from Camryn Compton lifted the No. 5 Wichita State Shockers past No. 8 Tulsa 5-2 in the second round of the American Softball Championship.

The Shockers advance to the quarterfinals to play No. 4 North Texas tomorrow at noon ET.

Tulsa took an early lead in the first inning, using a Wichita State throwing error to bring home the run.

The Golden Hurricane continued the scoring in the second inning with a solo home run to left field from Aliya Scarborough to take a 2-0 lead.

Ellee Eck put the Shockers on the board with a single to right field, scoring Brookelyn Livanec from third base to cut the lead to one.

The Shockers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth off a sacrifice fly from Jodie Epperson to score Taylor Sedlacek.

Wichita State took their first lead of the day in the bottom of the sixth inning. Following two hit-by-pitches, Camryn Compton connected on a three-run home run to left field to put the Shockers up 5-2.

The Golden Hurricane loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh, but back-to-back foul ball fly outs ended the threat and the game.
