LEXINGTON, Ky. – After a perfect weekend and helping lead Florida Atlantic to its first-ever C-USA Championship and second conference title in program history, Jillienne Cloud and Julie Honzovicova were named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Pair of the Week on Monday.
The honor marks Florida Atlantic’s second-ever AVCA national weekly honor and the first for Cloud and Honzovicova. The other AVCA weekly honor was awarded to Erica Brok and Mackenzie Morris on March 23, 2021.
Cloud and Honzovicova had a perfect weekend in the C-USA Championship, capturing all three wins during the tournament against No. 3-seed Tulane, No. 4-seed UAB, and No. 1-seed and 12-th ranked FIU in the C-USA Championship final. Against Tulane, the duo earned a straight-set win in dominant fashion, winning 21-12, 21-13 over the Green Wave. Cloud and Honzovicova then pushed UAB’s top pair to the brink after falling in their opening set, to earn a 23-21 victory in set two before capturing the win off a 15-11 set three victory. The pair then produced their best performance of the championship against No. 12-ranked FIU, earning a straight-set win, 21-16, 21-18, that clinched the Sandy Owls C-USA Championship victory.

The Sandy Owls are now preparing to compete in the NCAA Championship on May 5-7. The Sandy Owls will face off against No. 5 LSU in the opening round on Friday, May 5 for a 1 p.m. ET first serve in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
