Charlotte’s Scudder, Tulane’s Rebollo Named American Cross Country Runners of the Year

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s 2023 Runner of the Year awards for cross country, as voted on by the conference’s cross country head coaches.

American Men’s Runner of the Year

Nick Scudder, Sr. – Charlotte

Scudder earns Charlotte’s first Men’s Runner of the Year honor in their first year in The American.  Scudder took home the individual title at the 2023 American Athletic Conference Championship, finishing the 8k with a time of 22:33.4.  He would go on to claim All-Region honors with a 4th-place finish in the NCAA Southeast Regional with a time of 28:55.3, before capturing All-American honors with a 30th-place finish at the NCAA DI Cross Country Championships in Charlottesville, Virginia with a time of 29:38.6.

American Women’s Runner of the Year

Gemma Rebollo, Jr. – Tulane

Rebollo becomes the first Green Wave to earn Runner of the Year honors, after guiding Tulane to its first American Athletic Conference Championship. Rebollo was the individual winner at the 2023 American Cross Country Championship, running a 20:39.2 for the gold medal.  She would go on to be All-Region in the NCAA South Central Regional, finishing in 15th place with a time of 20:58.2 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
