Cade Cunningham Named 2024-25 KIA All-NBA Third Team

DETROIT, Mich. (May 23, 2025) – The NBA announced today that Pistons guard Cade Cunningham was named to the 2024-25 KIA ALL-NBA Third Team, as voted on by members of the media. This marks Cunningham’s first All-NBA selection and the first for Detroit since Blake Griffin in 2018-19.

Cunningham (6-6, 220) led the Pistons to a 30-win improvement over the team’s 2023-24 record, which marked the sixth-best turnaround in NBA history, averaging a career-high 26.1 points and 9.1 assists to go with 6.1 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game while shooting a career best 46.9% from the field and 35.6% from 3-point range.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft, Cunningham became the seventh player in NBA history to average at least 26.0 PTS, 9.0 AST and 6.0 REB in a season, joining LeBron James, Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, Russell Westbrook, James Harden and Oscar Robertson. His 26.1 points per game ranked seventh in the NBA and marked the sixth highest in a season in franchise history. Cunningham’s 9.1 assists per game ranked fourth in the league and eighth-most by a Piston in a single season.

A first-time NBA All-Star, Cunningham joined Nikola Jokic as the only players in the NBA to average at least 26.0 points and 9.0 assists per game this season while tying Grant Hill for the most 20-5-5 games in franchise history (39). Cunningham also finished fourth in the league with nine triple-doubles, the third-most in a season in franchise history, and ranked third in the league with 31 point-assist double-doubles.

The Arlington, Texas, native finished second among guards with 12.8 points in the paint per game, which was 10th-most among all players in the NBA this season. On the defensive end, Cunningham held opponents to 39% shooting in the fourth quarter as the primary defender, which ranked second in the NBA. Cunningham ended the regular season scoring 35-plus points in three straight games, tied with George Yardley (1958) and Joe Dumars (1993) as the longest such streak in franchise history.

Cunningham’s best outing of the season came in a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on January 4, totaling 40 points (15-29 FG, 4-8 3P), nine assists, six rebounds and one steal in 38 minutes. Later that month, Cunningham tallied 40 points, six rebounds, four assists and one steal in 36 minutes in a win over the Dallas Mavericks on January 31.

In a road win over Atlanta on February 23, Cunningham finished with 38 points (7-10 3FG), 12 assists, seven rebounds, one steal and three blocks, becoming the first player in NBA history with such minimums in a game. He joined Luka Doncic and Bradley Beal as the only three players to post 29 points, 10 assists and five rebounds in the first half of a game since 1997.

Cunningham made a career-high 70 appearances this season, leading the Pistons to a 44-38 record, tied with the 2015-16 team for the most wins since going 59-23 in 2007-08. The Pistons became the first team in NBA history to triple their win total in an 82-game season.
