DALLAS – After hauling in six catches for 193 yards and a touchdown in a win over Middle Tennessee Saturday afternoon, UAB WR Trea Shropshire was voted C-USA Offensive Player of the Week. Louisiana Tech DB Myles Brooks took home Defensive Player of the Week honors following a pick-six at a key moment just before halftime to help lift the Bulldogs to a 41-31 win over UTEP. UTSA K Jared Sackett was named C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season after hitting a 49-yard field goal and having three touchbacks in the win over WKU in Saturday’s rematch of last year’s championship game. The 2022 C-USA Players of the Week awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear and are voted on by a panel of the league’s media.
Shropshire had six catches for a career-high 193 yards and a touchdown in UAB’s 41-14 victory over Middle Tennessee. All of his production came in the first half to help UAB build a 38-7 lead at the break. The 193 receiving yards were the eighth-most single game receiving yards in program history, and Shropshire is once again leading the nation in yards per reception at 28.3 yards per reception.
Brooks was a difference-maker during LA Tech’s 41-31 conference-opening win over UTEP, returning an interception for a touchdown. Brooks’ interception came at a critical time as the junior picked off UTEP’s Gavin Hardison and returned it 44-yards for a touchdown to increase the Bulldogs lead to 30-10 with 2:33 left in the second quarter. Brooks’ pick-six was the first by a LA Tech player since teammate BeeJay Williamson accomplished the feat against Southeastern on Sept. 11, 2021.
Sackett made all four extra-point attempts and his only field goal try to help lead UTSA to a 31-28 victory over WKU on Saturday at the Alamodome. The senior kicker drilled a 49-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to give the Roadrunners a 17-14 lead they would never relinquish. He also had three touchbacks on five kickoffs in UTSA’s third straight win against the Hilltoppers. Sackett is now 7-9 on field goals and a perfect 27 of 27 for PATs this season.
