Bulls Sweep Fifth Straight Conference Series on Senior Day Against Memphis

USF defeated Memphis 2-1 in its fifth straight sweep

TAMPA, April 28, 2019 – USF swept its fifth straight American Athletic Conference series and matched the league’s best conference record in history with its 2-1 win over Memphis in the series finale.

With USF’s (38-15) 16-2 record in The American, it ties UCF for the best all-time record in softball in the American Athletic Conference which was set in 2015. The Bulls have reached this mark with three games remaining, as Wichita State joined the league last season adding three games to the conference slate.

A senior day duo put the Bulls on the board in third inning when Lindsey Devitt (Jacksonville, Fla.) reached on a fielder’s choice, and advanced on a walk by freshman Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hill, Md.). Macy Cook smashed a single to left center that gave Devitt enough time to sprint home.

USF doubled its lead in the bottom of the fifth with Cook’s second RBI of the game when she put a single perfectly down the left field line, scoring junior AnaMarie Bruni (Schwenksville, Pa.) who reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced to third on a stolen base and an error.

Sophomore Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) struck out five batters, walked just one and limited Memphis to one run.

Notable

  • Macy Cook had a multi-hit game and a multi-RBI game
  • Cook has had nine multi-hit games this season and four multi-RBI games this season
  • Cook batted .700 (7-for-10) against Memphis with three RBI
  • Kelsey Lay hit two singles for her fourth multi-hit game this season

USF heads to Wichita, Kan., for its final weekend of the regular season. The Bulls will play a three-game series Friday through Sunday.
