USF clinched another series win with a 3-1, War on I-4 victory in Orlando
ORLANDO, April 13, 2019 – USF won its eighth-straight conference game with a 3-1, War on I-4 Victory over UCF in Orlando on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls have now won three straight conference series matchups.
After the Bulls’ marathon win in game one that went scoreless until the 13th inning, USF (31-15, 9-2) was ready to make a splash earlier in the game against UCF (28-13, 7-4). In the third inning, senior Lindsey Devitt (Jacksonville, Fla.) drew a walk and stole second. Junior AnaMarie Bruni smashed a triple to center field, sending Devitt home for a 1-0 lead.
The Bulls added two more runs in the sixth inning when lay led off with a walk, and advanced to third when redshirt sophomore Bethaney Keen (Bradenton, Fla.) hit a deep single and advanced to second. Senior Macy Cook (Uniontown, Ohio) put the ball in play, and reached first safely when the Knights’ shortstop committed a throwing error. Lay scored on the play, and Keen advanced to third. Freshman Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hill, Md.) also hit a deep single, and Keen scored for the Bulls’ third run. UCF answered in the bottom of the frame scoring one run on an RBI single.
Senior Nicole Doyle improved to 9-10 this season with the win, pitching six and two-thirds innings. She limited the Knights to just three hits and struck out two. Senior Cheyenne Eggens (Vienna, Ohio) faced two batters in the sixth inning for one out.
