BUCCANEERS LINEBACKER DEVIN WHITE

Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019

(On what his favorite play of the game was) “I don’t have a favorite play, they were all good plays. I think my favorite was not missing a tackle. I don’t think I missed a tackle. And that’s usually something I try to strive on and be my best at. I always watch Bobby Wagner, and last season, he didn’t miss a single tackle in the season. In order to be the best, I’ve got to compete against the best.”

(On what the interception in the end zone meant for the defense) “It meant a lot with your back against the wall. We always just keep saying, ‘Just defend every blade of grass and you can come out victorious. Be the one to make that play.’ When it was my time,  made a play. When it was Sean (Murphy-Bunting’s) time, he made a play. Lavonte (David) made a play. Just different things, but you want to be the person to make that play for your team. So that’s what everybody is leaning on, just being that person.”

(On why big plays are happening for him the last two weeks) “I don’t know, just God, God’s the greatest. It’s my time, I guess. I’ve been set back this year, but I never complained and I also just kept my head down and kept working. It’s time for me to show out. It’s time for me to just show the world what I can do, and I just want to keep building off of it. I don’t want to take steps back. I want to just keep taking steps forward. When I went down with my injury, I told my mom over and over that it’s not a setback. I’m going to pick up right where I left off because I feel like I was doing great up in fall camp. It’s just like, just getting back into the rhythm and just keep going. I feel like the team thrives off my energy, because I’m always playing with a lot of energy out there. That’s what I do, I’m the youngest on the team so I feel like I have to be having more fun than a lot of guys, because they’ve been doing this for a long time.”

(On what it’s like to win three out of four games) “It feels good because we know we could have been doing this. We played some of the teams that are [considered] the best in the league. We took them all the way down to the wire, and for some guys, that’s good enough. But for most of us, we know that’s not good enough and we want to change the narrative of doing that. I wish we could have the Seahawks game back because we would have finished. We didn’t dominate that game. It’s just little stuff like that, we don’t want to go back to. Like they say, you get fooled once, and that’s on them. But if you keep getting fooled, then that’s on you. We’re not trying to make it a habit of it being on us. When a team beats us, a team needs to flat-out just beat us. And we’re not going to give it to them.”
