While already a gold-glove-level defender, Brice Turang proved he could be a force offensively
as well. The 2025 season was a breakout year offensively for Turang, in which he set career
highs in many major offensive categories. During the spring, the 26-year-old was able to parlay
his breakout campaign into a spot on Team USA’s World Baseball Classic roster. So far this
season, Turang is showing that his career year was no mirage. Brice Turang is budding into a
star before our eyes.
During the first two seasons of Brice Turang’s career, the former first-round pick proved to be a
stout defender at second base. He even picked up a Gold Glove award in his second season in
the big leagues in 2024. However, his bat left a lot to be desired. During the first two years of
his career, Turang slashed .239/.303/.328 with 13 homers, 91 RBI, and an OPS of .631. Despite
the limited power, he struck out an alarming 30.2% of the time.
Heading into the 2025 season, Brice Turang completely changed his approach at the plate. He
went from just a contact hitter to a damage-first hitting approach. The 26-year-old stopped
prioritizing putting the ball in play at all costs and instead focused on driving it. The new
approach brought him immediate results. He saw his exit velocity jump from 87 to 92.5 miles
per hour. His hard-hit rate increased from 30% to 49%, and he barreled balls much more
consistently. That season, Turang slashed .288/.359/.435 with 18 home runs, 81 RBI, and an
OPS of .794, all career bests. His 18 home runs were the third most on the team, and Turang’s
81 RBI trailed only Christian Yelich. He was also named NL Player of the Month for August, the
first Brewer to earn the award since 2018.
Turang’s career season in 2025 earned him a spot on Team USA’s World Baseball Classic roster.
One could argue that he was the MVP of that team this year. In six games, the 26-year-old
slashed .364/.391/.545 with no homers, five RBI, and an OPS of .937. His efforts helped Team
USA advance to the WBC championship. At the conclusion of the World Baseball Classic, Brice
Turang would take home all-tournament team honors.
So far this season, Turang has been showing that his breakout year in 2025 was no mirage. So
far this season, the 26-year-old is off to a great start. He’s currently slashing .400/.478/.600
with one home run, five RBI, and an OPS of 1.227. His hot bat is a big reason why the
Milwaukee Brewers are off to a sizzling 5-1 start to the regular season. Milwaukee has a
budding star in its lineup, and the team knows it! Brewers’ fans are salivating about how much
more lethal he’ll be when Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn come off the injured list. It
wouldn’t be that far-fetched to think that Turang could garner his first all-star selection this
season.
Brice Turang is a budding star in the Milwaukee Brewers lineup. He’s showing that not only is
he a great second baseman, but a dangerous hitter as well. The changes he made to his
offensive approach last season have paid immediate dividends for the 26-year-old. In the next
two months, Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn are expected to come off the injured list.
With a lengthier lineup coming soon, Turang’s numbers are only going to get better, and his
stardom will continue to grow.
