NEW YORK — Jan. 9, 2024 — Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. and Green Bay Packers linebacker Edgerrin Cooper are the NFL Rookies of the Month for games played in the months of December and January.
OFFENSE: WR BRIAN THOMAS JR., JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
- Thomas Jr. led all rookies in receptions (45), receiving yards (593) and receiving yards per game (98.8) and ranked second in touchdown receptions (five) in six games during December and January. This season, he became the fourth rookie in the Super Bowl era with at least 1,100 receiving yards and 10 touchdown receptions, joining Odell Beckham Jr. (2014 with the New York Giants), Ja’Marr Chase (2021 with Cincinnati) and Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss (1998 with Minnesota).
- Thomas Jr. becomes the first Jacksonville wide receiver to win Rookie of the Month.
- He becomes the third former LSU wide receiver to win a Rookie of the Month award since 2000, joining Odell Beckham Jr. (November & December, 2014) and Ja’Marr Chase (September, 2021).
DEFENSE: LB EDGERRIN COOPER, GREEN BAY PACKERS
- Cooper led all rookies in tackles per game (8.8) and tackles for loss (eight), and recorded two passes defensed, a sack, an interception and a fumble recovery in four games during December and January. His eight tackles for loss were tied for third most in the league in that span and he was the only player in the NFC to record eight-or-more tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.
- Cooper becomes the second Packers linebacker to win Defensive Rookie of the Month, joining Nick Barnett (October, 2003).
- He becomes the second former Texas A&M player to win a Rookie of the Month award, joining Rocky Bernard (September, 2002).
