SUNRISE, Fla.- The Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers announced this morning that the two teams will honor and remember late NHL alumni Jimmy Hayes with a moment of silence on Oct. 30, 2021 when the two teams meet at TD Garden.
Each team will also wear special jerseys during warm-ups that read ‘HAYESY’ and ‘BROADWAY’ two nicknames that Hayes was called by his teammates, friends and families. Both sets of jerseys will each be available for auction via the Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers’ Foundations with the funds benefitting a charity to be determined by the Hayes family, Bruins and Panthers. The Dorchester native appeared in a combined 334 NHL games for the Chicago Blackhawks (2011-2013), Florida Panthers (2013-2015), Boston Bruins (2015-2017) and New Jersey Devils (2017-18). Prior to his time in the NHL, Hayes was a standout at Boston College.
Hayes was 31 when he suddenly and tragically lost his life on Aug. 23 of this year.
