BOCA RATON, Fla. – The city of Boca Raton will host a celebration event for the Florida Atlantic University men’s basketball team on April 19. The hometown heroes will be honored in the Mizner Park Amphitheater beginning at 5 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, was rescheduled from its original date of April 12 due to forecasted inclement weather.The Owls are fresh off the greatest season in program history, as they advanced to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament with a record of 35-4. Prior to this season, FAU had one appearance in March Madness, but this year, the Owls soared to new heights. Florida Atlantic also captured the Conference USA Regular-Season and tournament Championship, the Owls’ first in C-USA.The community event will present the Owls with a Key to the City.”We are incredibly proud of the men’s basketball team’s success, which inspired a renewed sense of FAU spirit in the community,” said FAU President Stacy Volnick. “We look forward to commemorating their historic season at the City of Boca Raton’s Community Celebration event.”Doors open in Mizner Park Amphitheater at 5 p.m., with the formal presentation and team recognition will begin at 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and picnic blankets.
