Bethy Mununga’s 22 Points, 15 Rebounds Leads USF to a 54-45 Win Over Cincinnati

Mununga records her 11th double-double of the season as the Bulls get their sixth win in their last eight games

TAMPA (Feb. 16, 2022) — The University of South Florida women’s basketball team got 22 points and 15 rebounds from Bethy Mununga and 13 points from Elena Tsineke as the Bulls got back in the win column with a 54-45 victory over Cincinnati on Wednesday night in the Yuengling Center.

The win improves the Green and Gold to 18-7 overall and 8-3 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Bearcats fall to 10-14 on the year and 3-9 in The American.

With the score tied at 38-all at the end of three quarters, South Florida used a 14-1 fourth-quarter run to open up a tight affair and take an 11-point, 52-41 lead, on a layup by Elisa Pinzan with 2:29 left in the contest.

Cincinnati got the Bulls’ advantage down to seven points with just over 90 seconds left but that was as close as they got the rest of the night. South Florida shot 50 percent (5-for-10) from the field in the decisive fourth quarter en route to the win.

Maria Alvarez also chipped in with seven points while Sydni Harvey added six points.

Following its meeting with Cincinnati, South Florida will close out its three-game homestand on Feb. 22 against Wichita State at 7 p.m. (ESPN+) in the first of back-to-back games with the Shockers. The two programs will meet again on Feb. 24 at Wichita State (ESPN+, 7 p.m. ET), before the Bulls head to Greenville, N.C. to butt heads with East Carolina on Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. (ESPN+).

South Florida closes out its regular season on March 2 at 7 p.m. against Houston.

He was also tabbed the 2021 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.

The Bulls posted a 19-4 record and had five players, during the 2020-21 campaign, the Bulls had five players recognized by The American for impressive seasons, including Elisa Pinzan (Most Improved Player, All-Conference Second Team), Maria Alvarez (Co-Sixth Player of the Year), Bethy Mununga (All-Conference First Team), Elena Tsineke (All-Conference First Team), and Sydni Harvey (All-Conference Third Team).

In addition, Harvey was named the American Athletic Conference Tournament Most Outstanding Player and to the All-Tournament Team, while Mununga and Tsineke were also All-Tournament selections.
