Bergstrom Leads No. 20 Bulls at Valspar Collegiate

Freshman Albin Bergstrom (-2) tied for 21st in an 84-player field at the toughest regular-season tournament in college golf.

USF finished in 15th place at the event that featured 10 top-25 programs, including six teams ranked in the top 10.

PALM CITY, Fla., MARCH 19, 2019 – Playing in the toughest field in college golf, USF’s Albin Bergstrom tied for 21st place at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational.

Bergstrom was one of only a few players left in the field that had to complete their final round Tuesday morning and the freshman finished with a 2-under 211 at Floridian National Golf Club (par 71, 6,921 yards). The Ljunghusen, Sweden native’s impressive par-or-better streak ended at 14 rounds after he finished the event with a 73.

Bergstrom had strong support with his whole team heading back out on the course to watch him wrap up the Bulls’ run the three-day event after the final round was halted due to darkness Monday night. Ranked No. 42 nationally, Bergstrom secured his sixth straight top-25 finish by tying for 21st in an 84-player field at No. 20 USF’s most challenging event of the regular season.

USF started Monday’s 36-hole test in solid fashion by carding an even-par 284 in the second round before finishing the tournament in 15th place. No. 6 Wake Forest won the event that featured 10 top-25 programs, including six teams ranked in the top 10.
