Baseball – – The American Family Past Time

BY Peter Wein

Baseball has been called America’s Sport. Some may say football is that. I say- NO WAY!
I remember going to both sporting events with my family when I was a kid. My memories of going to football games is that it was so cold. Even enjoying being at a game was overshadowed by the winter weather. Admittedly, back then, all stadiums were outdoors.  No dome and climate control. On the other hand my memories of going to the ball park during the warmer weather of the baseball season is nothing but joy and great memories. Getting to watch Batting Practice. Getting autographs. Eating Hot Dogs- Peanuts and lots of soda. We were in such a great mood that we all laughed, got excited watching a home run and cheering on our team- As a family!!!

I have a friend that had an 9 year old kid. Every summer they would plan all the games and teams they wanted to see that season. Remember, school was out. The weather was warm. And there are dozens of games to choose from. Games that you could fit into your family’s schedule. The thing that I loved to do is planning on each summer to visit at least 3 ball parks around the country. Father and son. Bonding with America’s sport. The connection that these two created has lasted through their lifetime. The memory’s embedded in their brain. The fun. The stories. The reminicing over the years at those family gatherings. Even though today people talk about how expensive it has become to go to the games, there is still ways to get discounts and affordable seats. It doesn’t matter if your field level or Nosebleed seats. Its the experience and the family bonding that is what makes it a favorite past time.
As this season draws to a close, my advise is to plan next season and get to a few games with your family. Forget family bickering. Forget Politics. Just go out to the Ballpark and have some fun. Make Unforgettable Memories!
