Baseball – Sharks rally to stun Lions in SSC series opener

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks Baseball team used a six-run bottom of the eighth inning to rally for an 8-5 Sunshine State Conference victory over Saint Leo on Friday evening at the NSU Baseball Complex.

How it Happened
  • Saint Leo plated five runs in the top half of the second inning.
  • Anthony Stinson came through with an RBI base hit in the bottom of the fourth inning, driving in Jorge DeGoti, and cutting the deficit to 5-1. 
  • Justin Wachs drove in Roylan Quevedo with an RBI double down the right field, putting the score at 5-2. 
  • After a rough second inning, Keyler Gonzalez held the Lions off the scoreboard for the remainder of his outing. Tossing six consecutive shutout frames. 
  • The Sharks started the bottom of the eighth inning with back-to-back doubles by Xavier Moronta and Jack Cue, cutting the SLU lead to 5-3. 
  • Following a walk by DeGoti, Quevedo and Boris Pena added two consecutive base hits, loading the bases for Ty Torti
  • Torti came through with hit, scoring three runs – thanks to a throwing error by the Lions – as the Sharks took their first lead of the game at 6-5. 
  • Wachs added a triple down the right field line, before Ronny Medina capped off the six-run frame with an RBI single to give NSU an 8-6 advantage. 
  • Carlos Nolasco set down all three Lions’ hitters he faced, earning his second save of the year, as the Sharks defeated Saint Leo 8-6.
