Baseball – Sharks finish series with #1 Spartans

TAMPA, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks Baseball team wrapped up its three game Sunshine State Conference series against the No. 1 Tampa Spartans on Saturday evening at the UT Baseball Field. NSU dropped both games of Saturday’s doubleheader, losing game one 11-4 and the series finale 7-4.

How it Happened
  • Tampa was able to score a total of four runs in the first two innings of the game, taking a 4-0 lead over NSU. 
  • The Sharks responded with two runs in the top of the third inning, as Xavier Moronta hit a two-run double – plating Justin Wachs and Nick Rodriguez – cutting the deficit to 4-2.
  • Wachs added an RBI single of his own, putting the score at 4-3, in the top of the fourth inning. 
  • Tampa broke the game open in the fourth and fifth innings, totaling seven runs, making the score 11-3. 
  • Zeth Rodriguez added a solo home run for NSU in the top of the sixth. 
  • The Sharks dropped the second game of the SSC series against Tampa 11-4. 
How it Happened
  • Tampa plated a run in both the second and third innings, making the score 2-0 early in the series finale.
  • Richard Benitez came through with a two-run double, tying the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth. 
  • The Spartans added runs in the fifth and sixth innings, taking a 4-2 lead over NSU. 
  • Joel Cabrera hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning, putting the score at 4-3. 
  • Tampa scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth, pushing their lead to 7-3. 
  • The Sharks did not go quietly, as Jorge DeGoti came through with an RBI double in the top of the ninth inning. 
  • NSU lost the series finale 7-4. 
What's Next
