5/20/2024 | Baseball CLEARWATER, Fla. – The American Athletic Conference announced its all-conference teams for baseball on Monday. Representing Florida Atlantic was senior C.J. Williams on the second team and Trey Beard and Emilio Gonzalez on the all-freshman team. Williams started every series opener for the Owls, racking up a 3.39 ERA with 70 strikeouts in 79.2 innings. On April 19, he tossed a complete game shutout – the Owls first since 2016 – in a 5-0 win over Tulane. Beard made 13 weekend starts totaling a 4.77 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 60.1 innings. The product of Dunedin HS really hit his stride in his last three starts of the regular season where he allowed two or fewer runs in each game and struck out six, five, and five, respectively. Gonzalez started each of the last 42 games at first base for the Owls after opening the season as the expected designated hitter. In conference play, he hit four home runs and finished second on the team with 17 RBI. Florida Atlantic baseball opens the American Conference Tournament on Tuesday night against Tulane. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Fla. |
