3/15/2024 | Baseball | Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball continued to roll in a 15-2 win over Maine on Friday night. The Owls have now won five of the last six. THE BEGINNING Maine opened the scoring with two runs in the third inning, but the Owls got one back in the bottom of the frame. With one out, Jalen DeBose sent the first pitch he saw into the Maine bullpen to cut the deficit in half. THE TURNING POINT Starter C.J. Williams settled into a groove, retiring the Black Bears in order in the fourth and fifth. After recording just one hit in the first four innings, the FAU offense clicked into gear in the fifth. Carter Brady led off with a triple off the center field wall. After Dylan LaPointe was hit by a pitch, Patrick Ward tied the game with an RBI single. Two batters later, with the bases loaded, Andrew McKenna lined a two-RBI single to the opposite field to give the Owls their first lead. Christian Adams would later add a two-out single to make it 5-2. THE FINISH Reliever Danny Trehey struck out the side in the top of the seventh and the Owls’ offense put the game out of reach in the bottom of the inning. After Ward scored on a wild pitch, Adams added an RBI double and John Schroeder followed suit with a run-scoring single. The Owls weren’t done scoring either. Brady again sparked a big inning with a single to begin the eighth. David Alvarez logged a pinch hit single and Ward drew a walk to load the bases for DeBose. This time, the senior center fielder lined a bases-clearing double into the right field corner. McKenna, Schroeder, and Skyler Schulz also drove in runs in what eventually finished as a seven-run inning. With a 15-2 lead in tow, Justin Gay made quick work of the ninth, picking up two strikeouts along the way. He improved to 4-0 on the season. Trehey is yet to allow a run this season in 14.1 innings.Sam Drumheller recorded two strikeouts in his third appearance of the season. THE BATS McKenna and DeBose, the Owls’ leadoff hitter and nine-hole hitter, combined for five hits and seven RBI. DeBose homered for the second time in three games. He also dropped down a bunt single and finished the night 3-for-3. Adams and Schroeder each contributed a pair of RBI.Ward reached base three times and scored three runs.
