3/12/2024 | Baseball | Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball never trailed in route to a 6-4 win over Miami on Tuesday night at home. The sides will meet three more times this season. THE BEGINNING For the fourth consecutive game, the Owls scored in the first inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Emilio Gonzalez ripped a line drive off the back of the pitcher for an infield single, bringing Brando Leroux across to score.The sides went back and forth in the second, third, and fourth innings. Miami tied it in the second before a Patrick Ward base hit made it 2-1. The Canes homered in the third, but Dylan LaPointe answered with a solo shot in the bottom of the frame. Again, Miami scored in the fourth. This time, however, a two-RBI single up the middle by Gonzalez gave the Owls the lead for good. DYLAN LAPOINTE !!!!!! THE TURNING POINT The Owls bullpen was in control from the fifth inning on. Danny Trehey relieved starter Zach Abbey and pitched 2.2 scoreless. Trehey gave way to Steven Andrews who followed suit. With two on and two outs in the sixth, Andrews battled for an inning-ending strikeout of UM’s Daniel Cuvet. THE FINISH After a run-scoring triple by John Schroeder in the seventh, Braden Ostrander took over in the eighth and struck out Cuvet again with a runner in scoring position. Ostrander retired the Canes in order in the ninth to earn his second save of the season. Trehey is yet to allow a run this season in 13.1 innings. He finished with three strikeouts in two and two-thirds. Andrews allowed a pair of soft base hits and one run in his two frames. Ostrander recorded the last four outs. He’s held opponents scoreless in his last 5.1 innings. THE BATS Gonzalez finished 2-for-5 with three RBI. Schroeder drove in his team-leading 18th run of the season with his triple in the seventh. He also singled and walked twice. LaPointe doubled in addition to his second home run of the season. He scored two runs. Ward recorded his first RBI of the season. WHAT’S NEXT The Owls will play their final non-conference weekend series beginning Friday night against Maine.
