5/23/2025 | Baseball | Box Score CLEARWATER, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball finished the 2025 season with a record of 37-21 after a 6-3 defeat to No. 1 seeded-UTSA on Friday in the American Athletic Conference Tournament. THE BEGINNING The Owls opened the scoring in the top of the first on a hit-by-pitch, a single, and a throwing error by UTSA. On the mound, freshman James Litman held the Roadrunners (44-12) without a hit until the fourth inning when a single, a double, and a walk led to two runs. THE TURNING POINT Carter Brady tied the game with a leadoff solo home run in the fifth. UTSA started the sixth with back-to-back singles and eventually pushed two across on a base hit up the middle and a sacrifice fly. THE FINISH A two-out RBI single by Nick Romano cut the deficit to 4-3 in the eighth, but UTSA pulled away for good with two more runs in the bottom of the inning. THE BATS Romano, John Schroeder, and Brando Leroux finished with two hits apiece. Brady’s home run was his fourth in the last six games. THE ARMS Litman departed after four innings, allowing two runs on two hits. Carter Holjes was charged with the loss. He conceded two runs on two hits in 1.1 innings. MJ Bollinger pitched out of trouble in the sixth and held the Roadrunners scoreless in the seventh. He was relieved by Steven Andrews in the eighth for the final two outs. QUOTABLE Head coach John McCormack “I’m proud of our guys. I thought we had a really nice year, fought through plenty of adversity. Coming into today, we had good energy, good at-bats. We just couldn’t get that extra hit, and when they had opportunities, they capitalized on them. Three two-run innings sink us. But that’s why they’re the number one seed. We’ll get home and start working on next year.” |
