THE BEGINNING The avalanche of runs began in the first inning with a solo home run to the opposite field off the bat of Christian Adams. A two-run blast by Carter Brady made it 3-0 after two. THE TURNING POINT The Owls had FIU starter Joel Pineiro reeling after two innings and they delivered a knockout blow in the third. With the bases loaded and no outs, Jalen DeBose connected for a grand slam. That was the end of Pineiro’s day. This time John Schroeder did the honors with his second grand slam in as many days. When all was said and done, 14 hitters came to the plate accounting for six hits, 11 runs, and a 14-0 lead. THE FINISH Brady homered again in the fourth to bring the total to 16-0. The scoring was still not close to being over at that point. FIU got on the board with a solo homer in the fifth, but the Owls answered with five more in the bottom of the frame to make it 21-1. They added two in the sixth and one in the seventh before finally failing to score in the eighth for the first time all day.
