FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball snapped a four-game skid with an 8-3 victory over Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday night. The Owls (20-9) scored early and often and then relied on a strong effort from the pitching staff to even the season series with the Eagles (10-19).
THE BEGINNING
The Owls scored two runs in each of the first three innings to jump out to a 6-0 lead. John Schroeder started the scoring with an RBI single in the first, Marshall Lipsey provided a two-run double in the second, and Dylan LaPointe and Brando Leroux each singled home a run in the third. Dylan Murphy tacked on two more with a base hit in the fifth to make it 8-0.
THE TURNING POINT
Zach Kilby put together his best start of the season on the mound. The lefty contributed five innings with three hits and one run allowed. He tied his career high with four strikeouts and earned his first win as an Owl.
THE FINISH
The Owls’ bullpen took over in the sixth and held the Eagles in check to secure the victory.
THE BATS
- The Owls finished with 11 hits, led by two each from Jake Duer and Leroux.
- Lipsey extended his reached-base streak to 27 games.
- All nine position players recorded at least one hit.
THE ARMS
- Braden Ostrander pitched a scoreless sixth inning, including two strikeouts.
- Nick Wimberly handled the seventh without issue.
- Kide Adetuyi and Joey Abbazia combined for the three outs in the eighth.
- Max Martzolf allowed one unearned run in the ninth.
