3/30/2024 | Baseball | Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Florida Atlantic baseball improved to 4-2 in the American Athletic Conference with a resounding 14-3 victory over Memphis on Saturday afternoon. THE BEGINNING The Owls got off to an inauspicious start in the bottom of the first. Nicholas Del Prado started in an opener role and could not find the strike zone. After three walks and a double led to two runs, Trey Beard entered from the bullpen. Beard proceeded to strike out the side, stranding runners at second and third. FAU responded with a run in the second on a Brando Leroux RBI single. With Beard taking control on the mound, the Owl offense tied the game in the fourth. Emilio Gonzalez singled up the middle to bring in Jake Millan. THE TURNING POINT The Owls erupted for six runs in the top of the fifth to break the game open. One-out walks to Spencer Rich, Andrew McKenna, and John Schroeder loaded the bases. Christian Adams lined an opposite field double to left to score two. Millan and Carter Brady followed with back-to-back tape measure shot home runs to right and left field, respectively. In the blink of an eye, the visitors had an 8-2 lead and never looked back. THE FINISH Memphis got one back in bottom of the fifth, but the Owls regained the six-run advantage on an RBI single by McKenna in the seventh. Danny Trehey took over for Beard in the fifth and slammed the door on any hopes of a Memphis comeback. Trehey did not allow a hit in three scoreless frames. He struck out four along the way. The Owls tacked on five more runs in the top of the ninth inflate the final score even more. Dawson Ball pitched a clean bottom of the ninth to finish it off.
