3/30/2025 | Baseball | Box Score SAN ANTONIO – Florida Atlantic baseball dropped Sunday’s series finale to UTSA by a 7-6 final. The Owls (19-9, 2-4) held the lead entering the late innings for the third straight day before the Roadrunners (23-7, 5-1) battled back and eventually won on a walk-off. THE BEGINNING John Schroeder’s solo home run in the second inning opened the scoring before UTSA responded with a sacrifice fly in the third. The Owls went back in front in the fourth when Dylan Murphy, making his first career start, lined a base hit through the left side to score Schroeder from second. It was Murphy’s first career hit and RBI. UTSA answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take its first lead at 4-2. This time, it was the Owls’ turn to respond. A three-run blast by Jake Millan capped off a four-run fifth. The visitors were back in front with a 6-4 lead. THE TURNING POINT A two-out, two-RBI double by James Taussig tied the game again for the Roadrunners in the seventh. The Owls had two on with two outs in the eighth but could not convert. THE FINISH UTSA’s Jordan Ballin led off the bottom of the ninth with an opposite-field double. A ground ball moved Ballin to third, and the Owls decided to intentionally walk the next two batters to load the bases and set up the force with one out. Taussig would deliver again, however, this time with a fly ball deep enough to right field to bring in the winning run. THE BATS Schroeder finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored.Murphy, John Martinez, and Brando Leroux finished with two hits each.Marshall Lipsey walked and beat out a bunt single to extend his reached-base streak to 26 games. THE ARMS James Litman made the start and lasted 4.2 innings. The freshman earned allowed three runs on five hits.Joey Abbazia was first out of the bullpen and allowed one run in 1.2 innings.MJ Bollinger was charged with his first loss. The sophomore pitched a clean eighth inning before conceding the winning run in the ninth. WHAT’S NEXT The Owls return to Fort Myers for another matchup against FGCU on Tuesday, April 1. First pitch at Hammond Stadium, home of the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels, is scheduled for 6 p.m. |
