5/16/2025 | Baseball | Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball mustered just six hits in an 11-3 defeat to UAB on Friday in Alabama. The Owls (35-19, 14-12) are now locked into the four-seed for next week’s American Athletic Conference Tournament and will play either Tulane or East Carolina at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. THE BEGINNING For the second consecutive day, UAB scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Unlike Thursday, however, the Owls could not fight their way back from the early deficit. The Blazers added a run in each of the second and third innings to lead 6-0. THE TURNING POINT After being held in check through six innings by UAB ace Colin Daniel, the FAU offense showed signs of life in the seventh. Brando Leroux reached on a fielding error and scored on a hit by Ayden Garcia. Carter Brady launched a two-run home run to cut the deficit in half, 6-3. UAB responded immediately, though. Three hits, including a triple, led to three runs in the ensuing half inning to reinstate a six-run lead. The Blazers added two more runs in the eighth to make the final 11-3. THE BATS Nick Romano finished 2-for-4 for his second consecutive multi-hit game. Brady homered for the second straight day. The Owls were outhit 15-6. THE ARMS Tyler Murphy allowed four earned runs in an inning and two-thirds. The Owls used six relievers, starting with Zach Kilby, for 2.1 innings.Nick Wimberly held the Blazers scoreless for two innings and struck out five.
