BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball defeated Bucknell 15-5 in eight innings on Wednesday afternoon at the FAU Baseball Stadium. The Owls have won four in a row, entering the final non-conference weekend series against Bradley.
THE BEGINNING
The Owls (14-3) blitzed the Bison (6-8) for six runs in the opening inning. The first hit of the day was a grand slam off the bat of Dylan LaPointe after two walks and a hit-by-pitch to start the game. Later in the frame, John Martinez drove in two runs with a triple. FAU would send 11 men to the plate in the bottom of the first.
THE TURNING POINT
LaPointe and Martinez continued to be the run producers in the fourth. The former lined an RBI single up the middle, and the latter drove a base hit through the left side to score two. The Owls led 12-1 after four innings.
Bucknell scored four runs on two hits and an error in the sixth inning but Florida Atlantic immediately responded with a two-RBI double from Jake Duer in the bottom of the inning to go ahead by nine (14-5).
THE FINISH
The Owls needed just one run in the eighth inning to end the game on the run-rule. They loaded the bases with no outs, and Marshall Lipsey came home from third on a ground ball by Carter Brady.

- Including Boully, five of the seven pitchers did not allow a run.
- Freshman Nick Wimberly kept the Bison scoreless in the seventh and eighth innings while setting a new career-high with five strikeouts.
