The 49ers lost to Tulane in the winner’s bracket on Thursday. OWLS IN REVIEW The Owls (27-28) ended UTSA’s season with a 12-5 victory on Wednesday. A six-run fourth inning was ultimately the difference. John Schroeder, Christian Adams, and Spencer Rich all had run-scoring hits in the frame. Trey Beard completed five innings with three runs on six hits. He struck out four and did not walk a batter. The freshman improved to 4-3. Sam Drumheller and Steven Andrews finished the job for the final four innings. Adams finished 4-for-4 with three singles and a double. Rich was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI, one run scored, and a stolen base WHO’S HOT Christian Adams enters Friday on an 11-game reached base streak. Jake Millan has reached base safely in nine straight. Adams, Millan, and Rich each have three-game hitting streaks. THE OPPONENT Charlotte (24-33) opened the tournament with a 12-inning win over UTSA on Tuesday. The 49ers led most of the way against Tulane on Thursday before falling behind late in a 7-5 defeat. CLT has lost seven of its last nine overall. OPPONENT HISTORY The Owls took two of three from the 49ers in the regular season. FAU also won the season series against Charlotte last season. All-time, the edge goes to the Owls by a 22-12 margin. WHAT’S NEXT The Owls will need a win to set up another meeting with Tulane on Saturday. That game would get started at about 12:30 p.m. |
