![]() Big Inning Burns Owls on the Road at FIU3/8/2025 | Baseball | Box Score MIAMI, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball dropped its second consecutive road game on Friday night, falling 7-3 to FIU in Miami. The teams will reconvene at the FAU Baseball Stadium on Saturday for game two at 4 p.m. THE BEGINNING The first five innings were a pitching exhibition from the Owls’ Trey Beard and the Panthers’ Easton Marks. Beard’s only blemish was a solo home run in the third inning. Conversely, the Owls didn’t register their first hit until Jake Duer led off with an infield single in the sixth. Duer would eventually score the tying run when Ayden Garcia lined a base hit to right field. Two batters later, Jake Millan cashed in the go-ahead run with another hit to score Garcia. THE TURNING POINT Beard departed after 11 strikeouts in six brilliant innings, and the Panthers got the better of the Owls’ bullpen. FIU batted around and scored six runs on three hits in the seventh. Two walks and three hit batters contributed as well. Marshall Lipsey led off with a home run in the top of the eighth, but that was as close as the Owls would get in their comeback attempt. THE BATS Duer singled twice to lead the Owls in the hit column. The junior entered the night ranked third in Division I with 26 hits. THE ARMS Beard reached double-digits in strikeouts in his fourth straight start The sophomore ran into trouble with baserunners on second and third in the sixth but escaped by striking out three straight hitters. The Owls used four pitchers in the long seventh – Steven Andrews, Max Martzolf, and Braden Ostrander preceded Ryan Buckler, who got the final out to get out of the inning. Freshman Joey Abbazia made his second appearance of the season and pitched a scoreless eighth. WHAT’S NEXT The Owls will look to even the series on Saturday at 4 p.m. Tyler Murphy will make the start on the mound against FIU’s Owen Puk. |
