Bad weather blues…..


Ever hear the lyric “Rainy days and Mondays always get me down”?

It’s been raining a lot lately where I live. Some days it has gotten so dark, it felt like the day was over and it was nighttime already. Sigh, what a dreary, sad sensation we can get when it is so dark and gloomy.

Why is that? Studies have revealed that bad weather does, actually, affect our moods; however, the good news is it doesn’t have to.

In fact, neither rainy days nor Mondays have to get you down anymore. Why? Because YOU have the POWER to change that.

It’s all about choice. I used to choose to jump in to bed, pull the blanket over my head and wait for the sun to come out again! That just made everyone around me as miserable as I was so I made the conscious decision to find a way to make bad weather positive!

Bad weather started to mean many things: the kids came home to a special treat after school to make them smile, a special dinner with family time, watching a funny TV show together, fun family indoor activities on weekends or sometimes- just “ME” time. After all, when you’re happy everyone around you is happier. Right?

Suddenly there were things to look forward to on bad weather days. The choice was to welcome the smiles that could be had when the storms rolled in.

After working all week, I would hope for a sunny weekend to be able to relax and enjoy, even though many weekends involved running errands and catching up on all the things I couldn’t do while at work.

Sound familiar? Oh boy! Then it’s Monday again! The dreaded Monday!

Well, dread rainy days and Mondays no more! As I said, YOU have the POWER to change that.

When the day seems too busy to take time- make time! Sometimes, if I can’t interrupt work, I play calming meditation or spa music in the background to relax while working, or I plan to do something for “ME” at lunchtime away from my desk!

“ME” MondayTM   is a day that is especially for YOU! Plan ahead and allot some time, no matter how much or how little, and do something especially for yourself.

Now you can start looking forward to Monday!

DO IT! Do it for YOU! You deserve it!
