Army, Tulane Clinch Appearances In American Athletic Conference Football Championship Game

IRVING, Texas – The pairings for the 2024 American Athletic Conference Championship Game have been set as the Army Black Knights and the Tulane Green Wave will battle for the conference title Friday, Dec. 6, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

The location of the game will be determined in the final weeks of the regular season.

Tulane (9-2), which will play in The American Championship Game for the third consecutive year, closes the regular season Thanksgiving night against Memphis. Army (9-0), which will play in the championship game in its first year in The American, has a nonconference game against Notre Dame next Saturday at Yankee Stadium, then completes conference play Nov. 30 against UTSA at West Point.

Army took a 7-0 conference record into this week’s open date, while Tulane improved to 7-0 in The American with Saturday’s 35-0 win against Navy. Both teams hold a two-game lead on the rest of the field with one conference game remaining.

The American Football Championship Game will be played at the home venue of the participant with the highest winning percentage in conference games. If the teams are tied in the final regular-season standings, the conference tiebreaking procedures will determine the host location. Since Army and Tulane will have not played in the regular season, then the applicable tiebreakers will hinge on the Nov. 26 College Football Playoff rankings and the results of games through Nov. 30.

Army and Tulane have met on the gridiron 23 times since the series began in 1953. Tulane holds a 13-9-1 series lead and has won the last four meetings, most recently a 38-12 decision in New Orleans in 2020.

Tickets for the 2024 American Athletic Conference Championship Game will be available to the public through the participating teams’ ticket offices once the site of the game has been determined.
