IRVING, Texas – The American Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly football honors from Week 8 of the 2025 season.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Iverson Hooks • So. • WR • UAB
Hooks had career highs in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown receptions to lead UAB to a 31-24 win against No. 22 Memphis, snapping the Tigers’ 10-game winning streak. He finished with 11 receptions for 172 yards and three touchdowns, finding the end zone from 15, 16 and 20 yards. Hooks’ 16-yard TD catch came with two seconds left in the first half, allowing the Blazers to take a 17-14 lead into halftime, while his 20-yard scoring reception came with 4:06 left in the fourth quarter, giving UAB a 31-17 advantage.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mac Harris • Gr. • LB • South Florida
Harris led a South Florida defense that limited Florida Atlantic to 23 rushing yards and 6-of-21 efficiency on third down in the Bulls’ 48-13 victory. Harris finished with a team-high 10 tackles, a sack, 2.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry as the Bulls held the Owls to only one touchdown.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nick Mazzie • Sr. • K • East Carolina
Mazzie scored 11 points as he connected on a pair of field goals and was 5-for-5 on PATs to help East Carolina to a 41-27 win against Tulsa. Mazzie opened the scoring with a 37-yard field goal in the first quarter and he gave the Pirates a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter with a 32-yard field goal.

Cale Hellums • Jr. • QB • Army
Rushed for a career-high 155 yards with two touchdowns on 39 carries and added 125 passing yards in a 24-17 loss at Tulane.
Katin Houser • Jr. • QB • East Carolina
Completed 21 of 38 passes for 300 yards and two touchdowns and added a rushing TD in a 41-27 win against Tulsa.
Caleb Hawkins • Fr. • RB • North Texas
Rushed for 133 yards on 18 carries in a 55-17 win against UTSA.
Byrum Brown • Sr. • QB • South Florida
Accounted for 367 yards of total offense and four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing) in a 48-13 win against Florida Atlantic. Rushed for 111 yards on 14 carries and went 14-of-24 for 256 passing yards.
Jake Retzlaff • Sr. • QB • Tulane
Completed 22 of 29 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns and added 62 rushing yards in a 24-17 win against Army.
