Florida Atlantic begins 5-0
The Florida Atlantic Owls started the season hot, winning five games during opening weekend including wins over Indiana, Ohio State and Wisconsin. The efforts earned the Owls both Pitcher and Player of the Week honors in the American to begin the season.
BULLS shutout MIDWEEK COMPETITION
The South Florida Bulls earned a pair of shutout victories on Tuesday, defeating Delaware in double-header action 7-0 in game one and 8-0 in game two. With three shutouts in seven games, the Bulls have the second most shutouts in the nation early in the season.
NON-CONFERENCE PLAY CONTINUES
American Conference teams will continue non-conference tournament action this week with multiple ranked opponents on schedules. Wichita State will take on No. 9/11 Arkansas and No. 18 Clemson, Charlotte will play No. 14/16 Virginia Tech, and North Texas will play a pair of games against No. 19/21 Mississippi State.
OWLS ENTER TOP 25
A 5-0 opening weekend vaulted the Florida Atlantic Owls into the Top 25 in the Softball American Poll (23), NFCA Poll (23) and D1Softball Poll (25). They have a strong weekend schedule ahead as they take on No. 1 Texas Tech, No. 3 Tennessee and No. 6 Florida State.
SACRIFICE HITS
Through the opening weekend, two American teams rank in the top 10 in sacrifice bunts and flies. Memphis leads the nation with nine sacrifice bunts, while Florida Atlantic is 9th in the country in sacrifice flies with four.
