American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Release – November 3

SOUTH FLORIDA NAMED PRESEASON FAVOITES

The South Florida Bulls were selected as the conference favorite for a fifth consecutive season, earning eight first-place votes and 135 total points. Rice, the defending American Athletic Conference tournament champion, and North Texas both earned 124 total votes to finish second in voting. The Mean Green earned three first-place votes, while the Owls earned the final two. Tulsa (98) and UTSA (96) rounded out the top five in voting.

LAMPKIN, LEVY VOTED PRESEASON PLAYERS OF THE YEAR

North Texas graduate forward Tommisha Lampkin and South Florida redshirt-senior forward Romi Levy were voted American Preseason Players of the Year.

Lampkin, a 2023-24 First Team All-American Athletic Conference selection, helped lead the Mean Green to a regular season title, finishing seventh in the NCAA with a field goal percentage of 61.6 percent. She posted 13 double-doubles while averaging 15.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

Levy, the 2023-24 American Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year, scored in double-figures in 24 of her 28 games started. She averaged 14.7 points per game on 43-percent shooting. Levy was also named to the 2023-24 American Athletic Conference All-Newcomer Team and Second Team All-American Athletic Conference.

2024-25 BASKETBALL SEASON COMMENCES

The 2024-25 women’s basketball season is set to begin on Monday, November 4. Nine teams in The American will play on opening day, including eight home games.  Florida Atlantic will be the lone team traveling as they head to Gainesville to take on Florida.

Tulsa and East Carolina will begin their seasons on Wednesday, November 6, while UTSA will play their first game on Thursday, November 7.
