American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Release – Nov. 17

WEEKEND SLATE

American squads will have chance to take down a few ranked opponents this weekend. Memphis will take on (RV) Arizona on Saturday afternoon, while SMU will host No. 5/7 Colorado on Saturday night at 9 p.m. ET.  On Sunday, the Tigers could get another ranked opponent against No. 23/25 Ole Miss.

CHARITY STRIPE ADVANTAGE

At 3-1 on the season, the North Texas Mean Green have been aggressive getting to the basket and have used the free throw to their advantage.  They currently lead the nation in free throws made per game at 25.75 and are attempting a nation-leading 37 free throws per game.

GRIGGS CLOSING IN ON MEMPHIS THREE POINT RECORD

After hitting another four three-pointers in the overtime loss to Tennessee, 5th Year Memphis guard Madison Griggs is just six three-pointers away from breaking the all-time three-point record at Memphis for men and women, set by Rodney Carney in 2006. She has 282 in her career, which is 4th all-time in The American for women’s basketball.

HITTING THE GLASS

The Memphis Tigers have thrived on second chances this season. They are ranked 10th in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game (20.0).  East Carolina and UTSA are tied for 28th in the country at 17.7 offensive rebounds per game.

PIRATES DEFENSE THRIVING

East Carolina once again features one of the top defenses in the country. The Pirates lead the NCAA in steals per game (21.3) and turnovers forced per game (36.0), while ranking fourth in defensive scoring at 42.3 points allowed per game.
