American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Release – January 9

BLAZERS AND PIRATES SQUARE OFF

UAB and East Carolina will face off on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN+ in a battle of a top offense against a top defense. UAB is second in The American in scoring, averaging 71.2 points per game, while East Carolina leads the league is scoring defense, allowing just 55.2 points per game.

COLEMAN DELIVERS MONSTER PERFORMANCE

UTSA’s Elyssa Coleman helped deliver the inaugural American Athletic Conference win for the Roadrunners, scoring 32 points and coming down with 19 rebounds in the 74-60 win over Wichita State.  The 32 points scored is the 10th most in a single game in program history, while the 19 rebounds is the 5th most in a single game.

STOCKTON EYEING 650 WINS

Tulane head coach Lisa Stock is looking to win her 650th career game.  She will become the 14th active coach to reach the milestone and just the 35th coach to ever reach 650 wins. Of her 649 career wins, 586 have come at Tulane, while 63 came over three seasons at Greensboro.

49ERS MOVE TO FRONT OF THE PACK

Charlotte has begun their inaugural American Athletic Conference season with three straight wins, handing three straight opponents their first conference loss of the season. They are the lone 3-0 team in conference play and sit in first place in The American in the early stages of conference play. The 49ers will face a fourth straight unblemished conference foe when they take on Rice on Thursday at 8 p.m. in Houston.

THE AMERICAN IN THE NET

As conference play begins, three American Athletic Conference teams find themselves in the Top 100 – East Carolina (79), North Texas (80) and Rice (99). Charlotte (104), Temple (109) and South Florida (110) are just outside the top 100.
