American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Release – January 5

ON DECK IN THE AMERICAN

This weekend will feature an early season battle between two of the top teams in the conference as UAB and Charlotte face off on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in Charlotte.  The Blazers and 49ers both open their inaugural American Athletic Conference seasons with 2-0 records. Tulsa will look to improve to 3-0 in conference play with a home game against Temple.

TULSA RIDING WINNING STREAK

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane currently hold the best record in The American at 12-3.  After winning their first two conference games of the season, Tulsa now holds a seven-game winning streak, the longest in the league, which includes wins over Texas Tech and Florida. Their last loss came over a month ago on December 1 at TCU.

NORTH TEXAS, RICE EARN FIRST WINS IN THE AMERICAN

North Texas and Rice both picked up their first wins as part of The American.  North Texas went on the road to defeat Temple 74-63 on Tuesday, while Rice earned a home win over Wichita State on Wednesday.

STOCKTON EYEING 650 WINS

Tulane head coach Lisa Stock is looking to win her 650th career game.  She will become the 14th active coach to reach the milestone and just the 35th coach to ever reach 650 wins. Of her 649 career wins, 586 have come at Tulane, while 63 came over three seasons at Greensboro.

BENEFITING FROM THE CHARITY STRIPE

North Texas has been aggressive getting to the basket this season, resulting in the 2nd most free throw attempts in the nation (28.0 per game) and the second most made free throws per game (18.6 per game) in NCAA Division I. DesiRay Kernal has made 77 free throws on the season, the 5th most in the nation.
