BULLS END ‘RUNNERS WIN STREAK

South Florida took down first-place UTSA on Wednesday night in Tampa, 75-63. Romi Levy led the Bulls with 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting, while Sammie Puisis added 16 points and Carla Brito added 14.  Mama Dembele facilitated with 11 assists to go along with her eight points. The win ended UTSA’s 10-game winning streak and 8-0 record in The American.

JOSTLING AT THE TOP

With UTSA losing on Wednesday, there are now three teams within one game of each other for first place in The American. North Texas and UTSA both stand at 8-1, while South Florida is at 7-2. The Mean Green has a chance to create some breathing room over the next two games, as they hit the road to take on South Florida on Saturday, February 1 before traveling to San Antonio to take on UTSA on Tuesday, February 4.

UAB CARDIAC KIDS

Winners of four of their last five games, the UAB Blazers have had three of those games come down to the wire. A buzzer beater lifted UAB past South Florida (Jan. 14), while the Blazers used overtime to defeated Rice (Jan. 22) and Wichita State (Jan. 25) in the past two games. UAB will travel to Tulane on Saturday, Feb. 1 to take on the Green Wave at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

SATURDAY SHOWDOWNS

Saturday features four of the top five teams competing against each other. First place UTSA will host fourth place Temple, while third place South Florida will host first place North Texas

AMERICAN IN THE NET

Two teams rank in the top 100 of the NCAA NET rankings. South Florida leads the way at 64, while UTSA is just behind at 75. Temple sits just outside the top 100 at 105.
