American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Release – January 16

ON DECK IN THE AMERICAN

Four teams sit with just one loss on the season in conference action – UAB, Charlotte, North Texas and Rice. Three of the four teams are schedule for Wednesday night as Charlotte hosts Tulane (6:30 p.m. ET), Rice travels to East Carolina (11 a.m. ET) and North Texas heads to SMU (8 p.m. ET). UAB will wait until Sunday to play, hosting UTSA at 2 p.m. ET. All games will be aired on ESPN+.

‘RUNNERS WIN DOUBLE OVERTIME THRILLER

UTSA handed the Charlotte 49ers their first American Athletic Conference loss on Sunday as the Roadrunners won in double overtime 81-80.   Following a Jacee Busick three-pointer with 13 seconds left to give Charlotte the lead, Idara Udo grabbed an offensive rebound and made the game-winning layup with 1.6 second left on the clock.

STOCKTON WINS 650TH GAME

Tulane head coach Lisa Stock is won her 650th career game on Saturday, defeating East Carolina, 81-55.  She became the 14th active coach to reach the milestone and just the 35th coach to ever reach 650 wins. Of her 650 career wins, 587 have come at Tulane, while 63 came over three seasons at Greensboro.

LAMPKIN’S EFFECIENT SHOOTING

North Texas senior forward Tommisha Lampkin has been an integral part of the Mean Green’s early success this year. Lampkin currently leads The American and is fourth in the NCAA in field goal percentage, connecting on 66.7 percent of her shots.

THE AMERICAN IN THE NET

North Texas (84) and East Carolina (97) sit at the top of the NET rankings in The American through January 15.  Charlotte (104), South Florida (106), Rice (109) and Temple (111) are just behind.
