American Athletic Conference Volleyball Release – November 13

REGULAR SEASON ENDS

This is the final regular season weekend for American volleyball as teams prepare to earn seeds for the upcoming American Athletic Conference Championship next week (Nov. 22-24) in Wichita. Five teams have clinched their spots – South Florida, Rice, Wichita State, East Carolina and Tulsa. The final three seeds are up for grabs.

THREE TEAM RACE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP

Three teams enter the final weekend of play vying for a chance at a regular season championship. South Florida and Rice are both tied at 12-2 in conference play, with South Florida owning the tiebreaker over Rice for the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Wichita State sits two matches back, but still has a shot at being a co-champion if South Florida and Rice both lose their two matches, while the Shockers win both.

Tulsa’s Tytiana Johnson has been a force at the net on defense for the Golden Hurricane this year. The senior middle blocker leads The American and is ranked 22nd in the nation with 1.37 blocks per set.

DISHING THEM OUT

Three teams in the American are ranked in the Top 50 of the NCAA in team assists.  South Florida is 32nd with 1,239, Wichita State is 40th with 1,228, and Florida Atlantic is 44th with 1,225.

LATEST RPI RANKINGS

The American has four schools ranked in the Top 100 of the latest edition of the NCAA RPI, led by Rice at 33.  Wichita State stands at 56, followed by South Florida (57) and Tulsa (86). East Carolina is just outside at 104.
