LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN

East Carolina has started the season with seven straight wins – the most wins in NCAA Division I entering the second weekend of competition. The Pirates got to their seventh win on Tuesday, using a bases-clearing double from Anna Sawyer in the 7th inning to defeat North Dakota State 5-4.

49ERS MAKE HISTORY TO START SEASON
The Charlotte 49ers began the 2024 season on a hot note, earning their first win over a top 5 opponent in program history. The 49ers took No. 4 Florida State to 10 innings, defeating the Seminoles in Tallahassee 6-5. Sam Gress tossing 6.0 innings in the win, allowing just two runs, while Abigail Knight played hero with the go-ahead single in the 10th inning to give the 49ers the win.

HOME SWEET HOME

South Florida begins the season playing their first 27 games at the friendly confines of USF Softball Stadium in Tampa. Their first road game will not come until March 11 when they travel to Fort Myers. The Bulls don’t leave the state of Florida until March 15 when they travel to Tulsa for a conference game against the Golden Hurricane. The Bulls are currently 4-2 to begin their home stretch.

DOUBLE TROUBLE

East Carolina leads the nation in doubles with 17 on the season. Emma Jackson and Anna Sawyer are the top two in the nation in the category, as Jackson has six doubles through seven games and Sawyer has four.  Jackson also leads the nation in hits with 17.

ON DECK IN THE AMERICAN

American teams will face off against top competition this weekend. No. 21/25 South Carolina on Thursday in Mexico after already having played No. 7/9 Clemson and No. 24/20 Auburn. North Texas will play two games against No. 15 Missouri, and Florida Atlantic will take on (RV) Louisville, twice, and (RV) Michigan.
