Two American men’s soccer players are ranked in the top five in the NCAA in assists per game. Florida Atlantic’s Mamadou Diaarra and Charlotte’s Ben Fisher are both averaging one assist per game, good for fourth in the NCAA. They also rank sixth in the NCAA in total assists (3).
Hanging With Top Ranked Opponents
Over the past week, two American teams have finished in draws against Top 25 opponents. Charlotte battle 7th-ranked Syracuse on the road to a 2-2 draw, while FIU held No. 16 Georgetown scoreless in a 0-0 draw on Labor Day.
Stone Wall in Miami
FIU goalkeeper Nigel Van Haveren has been a force in the net for the Panthers this season. His 29 saves in the goal lead the nation. He is averaging 7.25 saves per game, second in the nation.
Road Trip
Seven of the 10 games this weekend will feature American teams hitting the road. The lone home matches will be Florida Atlantic hosting Utah Valley (Sept. 5), South Florida hosting FGCU (Sept. 6) and South Florida hosting UC Irvine (Sept. 9).
49ers Receiving Votes
The Charlotte 49ers have begun to impress coaches following a 2-0-1 start to the season, which include a draw against 7th ranked Syracuse. In the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll, Charlotte is receiving 31 votes, just four votes away from entering the Top 25.
