American Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Release – October 31

Final Weekend of Play

As teams enter the final week of American Athletic conference play, nobody has been eliminated from the conference tournament which begins Friday, November 8. Memphis, Charlotte, South Florida and FIU have all clinched a spot in the final field, while Florida Atlantic, Tulsa, Temple and UAB will all fight for the final two spots.

Tigers, 49ers Chase Top Seed

Holding a two-point lead heading into the final game of the season, the Memphis Tigers will need to win or tie against FIU to claim the No. 1 seed in the American Athletic Conference tournament. A win  or Charlotte loss would earn an outright conference championship.

Charlotte will need to defeat Florida Atlantic and have Memphis lose to FIU in order to host the championship and be the No. 1 seed. They would also earn the outright championship. The Tigers defeated the 49ers 1-0 on October 5 to earn the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Owls High-Scoring Offense

Florida Atlantic is riding a three-game winning streak and part of that can be contributed to their offense. The Owls rank fourth in the country in total assists (43) and third in assists per game (3.07). They also lead the conference in scoring offense (1.79 goals per game). The Owls will host South Florida on Friday at 8 p.m. ET.

NCAA RPI

Four American squads enter the week in the Top 100 in the NCAA RPI.  Charlotte leads all teams at No. 25, followed by FIU (70), UAB (92) and South Florida (96). Memphis is just outside at 101.
