American Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Release – November 7

TIGERS CLINCH TOP SEED

The Memphis Tigers used a 2-2 draw against FIU to clinch the top seed in the American Athletic Conference Championship and the right to host the semifinals and championship game. Following a Charlotte loss on Saturday, the Tigers also claimed the outright American Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship.

MEMPHIS EARNS FOUR MAJOR AWARDS

The American regular season champion Memphis Tigers took home four of the six major awards. Jackson Kim was named American Defensive Player of the Year, Lleyton Imparato, along with South Florida’s Pedro Faife, was named American Midfielders of the Year, Filip Sabatti was named American Goalkeeper of the Year and the SMU coaching staffed earned the American Coaching Staff of the Year. Florida Atlantic’s Mamadou Diarra was named American Offensive Player of the Year, while UAB’s Mathis Richter and FIU’s David Houja were selected as American Freshmen of the Year.

FIRST ROUND MATCHUPS SET

The bottom four seeds will face off in the first round of The American Men’s Soccer Championship on Friday for a chance to travel to Memphis to play in the semifinals.  No. 6 Temple will head to Charlotte to take on the third-seeded 49ers, while No. 5 FIU will head to Boca Raton to take on No. 4 Florida Atlantic. Both matches are set for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

DEFENDERS UNANIMOUS ALL-CONFERENCE SELECTIONS

Memphis graduate defender Jackson Kim and Charlotte senior defender Ian Pilcher were the lone unanimous selections to the 2024 American All-Conference team. Kim also earned the Defensive Player of the Year, while Pilcher was named the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
