Charlotte, Temple Earn Opening Weekend Wins
Defending conference champions and preseason favorite Charlotte took down Davidson in their season opener 3-0. Ian Pilcher scored the first goal of the day, while Brigham Larsen scored and assisted on the final two. Charlotte did not allow a single shot on goal.
Temple used a Sunday night victory to earn their first win of the season, with Xavier Rimpel scoring the game-winning goal against Villanova from a penalty kick to beat their cross-town rival 3-2.
Ranked Opponents on Deck
American teams will play a handful of ranked opponents this week and look to earn the first ranked win of 2024. Wednesday night will feature Tulsa taking on No. 15 Louisville at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN+. On Thursday, Charlotte will travel to No. 7/15 Syracuse, while FIU will travel to No. 17/14 North Carolina. Both games will air on ESPN+ at 7 p.m. ET. Labor Day will feature FIU taking on No. 16/18 Georgetown in Washington D.C. at 1 p.m. ET on FloFC.
Lopez Returns To Goal
After missing last season, senior Tulsa goalkeeper Alex Lopez returns to the goal for the Golden Hurricane this year. Lopez ranks in the top six in AAC history in wins in goal (22)and shutouts (15), while ranking 11th in NCAA Division I in active goalkeeper minutes and 14th in active goalkeeper solo shutouts.
Home Cooking
This weekend will feature nine home matches for American men’s soccer teams. Florida Atlantic and Memphis will host a pair of home matches, while Temple, South Florida, UAB and Tulsa will also be playing in the friend confines of their home stadium.
