American Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Release – November 19

ON THE DOCKET

Three American squads are in action on Tuesday, November 19, including Charlotte hosting in-state foe Gardner-Webb at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

HILL’S BIG DEBUT FOR THE SHOCKERS

Justin Hill scored 31 points in his Wichita State debut, as the Shockers defeated Western Kentucky on the road, 91-84, on November 9. His 31 points are the most ever by a Shocker in a debut.

It was also the first true road game to open a season for the Shockers since 1992, and first game away from the Roundhouse to start a campaign since 2003 when Wichita State started the season at the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.

HOT START FOR THE PIRATES

East Carolina defeated George Mason, 78-77, in double overtime on Saturday, November 16 to improve to 4-0 on the young season. It is the best start for the Pirates since 2020-21, when they started 5-0.

SHOOTING LIGHTS OUT

Memphis made 13 shots from behind the arc out of 18 attempts against Ohio on November 15. The Tiger’s 3-point percentage of 72.2 is the second-highest by an American team in conference history, behind Cincinnati against UCF on February 25, 2015 (6-of-8 for 75.0 percent).

PEFERCT FROM THE LINE

Both Tulane and UAB have had perfect nights from the free throw line this season. The Green Wave went 15-for-15 against Alcorn State on November 11, while the Blazers were 13-for-13 against Auburn Montgomery on November 18.

The only other two times an American team has been perfect from the line with 13 or more attempts was SMU at UCF on March 4, 2020 (16-for-16) and Wichita State vs. UTSA on February 7, 2024 (15-for-15).
