COMING DOWN THE STRETCH

UAB, Memphis and North Texas have all earned double byes into the quarterfinals of the 2025 American Men’s Basketball Championship. Memphis leads the Blazers and the Mean Green by one game in the race for the regular-season championship and No. 1 seed with three games remaining.

Memphis is 10th in Division I in 3-point percentage at 39.0 percent, led by Tyrese Hunter, who is 41.1 percent from behind the arc.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE

UAB’s Yaxel Lendeborg is third in Division I with 19 double-doubles on the season and has broken The American record for career double-doubles with 38. Dedric Lawson of Memphis (2015-17) had the previous record of 36.

He is one of two players in Division I (Duke’s Cooper Flagg) that leads his team in points (17.6), rebounds (10.9), assists (4.3), steals (1.6) and blocks (1.8).

POURING IN THE POINTS

Temple’s Jamal Mashburn Jr is second in Division I in scoring with 22.0 points per contest, Memphis’ PJ Haggerty is sixth with 21.3 points per game.

UTSA’s Primo Spears became the sixth player in conference history to score 40 points in a game, dropping 40 against Tulsa on January 7.
