Tulane registered its sixth consecutive road victory with Saturday’s 21-3 win at Southern Miss.
Tulane head coach Willie Fritz improved to 19-2 all-time against opponents from the Sun Belt Conference. The only losses were against Southern Miss last season and to Georgia State when Fritz was at Georgia Southern.
Five of The American’s 14 teams (UTSA, Tulane, East Carolina, Tulsa, North Texas) started different quarterbacks in Week 3 than they did in their respective season-openers.
North Texas QB Chandler Rogers threw for 313 yards and two touchdowns in his first start with the Mean Green. It was the first win at North Texas for head coach Eric Morris.
Rice completed a two-game sweep of its Houston-based opponents as the Owls were 59-7 winners against Texas Southern. Rice had taken a 43-41 win against Houston last week.
SMU’s 69-0 win against Prairie View A&M produced the third-largest margin of victory by an American Athletic Conference team in league history.

Tulsa’s attendance of 30,855 against Oklahoma was the school’s largest home crowd since the renovation of H.A. Chapman Stadium in 2008.
