American Athletic Conference Football Saturday Night Notes | Nov. 16

  • The American Athletic Conference and the Big Ten are the only FBS conferences with at least three nine-win teams through Week 12.
  • Tulane and Army have clinched appearances in the 2024 American Athletic Conference Championship Game following Tulane’s 35-0 win at Navy Saturday.
  • The championship game venue will be determined in the final week of the regular season, when Tulane hosts Memphis (Thanksgiving night) and Army hosts UTSA (Saturday, Nov. 30).

·         If Army and Tulane both win, then the higher-ranked team in the Nov. 26 College Football Playoff rankings would host the championship game.

·         If Army and Tulane both lose, then the home team would be determined by an average of computer metrics after the conclusion of all games of Nov. 30.

·         If one team wins and the other loses, then the outright regular-season champion would host the championship game.

  • Tulane tied the American Athletic Conference record with its 17th consecutive regular-season conference win. The Green Wave ties UCF (2017-19) and Cincinnati (2020-22) for the longest regular-season winning streak in conference history.
  • Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall is 25-0 in his head coaching career when his team has more rushing yards than the opponent.
  • Tulane had won 21 American Athletic Conference games in its first eight years in the conference and has 22 wins in The American in the last three seasons.
  • Tulane’s 35-0 win against Navy was the Green Wave’s first shutout in a conference game since a 20-0 win against Vanderbilt, when the Green Wave was in the SEC.
  • Tulane RB Makhai Hughes has rushed for at least one touchdown in 11 consecutive games.
  • Memphis QB Seth Henigan threw four touchdown passes in the Tigers’ win against UAB, becoming the only active FBS player with four seasons with at least 20 touchdown passes at the same school.
  • Memphis QB Seth Henigan will enter Week 13 needing 173 yards to tie The American’s career passing yards record, set by East Carolina’s Holton Ahlers from 2018-22.
