American Athletic Conference Announces Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, March 2.

Player of the Week

Tiarra East, Sr., G, Temple

East had a dominant week for the Owls, averaging 27 points and 5 rebounds in a pair of wins over Memphis and Rice. The wins locked in a double-bye in the upcoming American Basketball Championship. East set a new career-high with 33 points against Rice on Friday.

Freshman of the Week

Tamya Smith, Fr., F, Memphis

Smith had a pair of impressive games, averaging 17 points and six rebounds.  She set a career-high in back-to-back games, including 19 points against Tulsa.

Honorable Mention

Amiya Joyner, Jr., F, East Carolina

Joyner led the Pirates to a pair of wins averaging 20 points and 10.5 rebounds.  In the win over South Florida, Joyner scored 23 points and 11 rebounds.

Tommisha Lampkin, Sr., F, North Texas

Lampkin averaged 19.5 points and 11 rebounds in a pair of wins, extending her double-double streak to four games.

Jordyn Jenkins, R-Sr., F, UTSA

Jenkins helped secure the top seed in The American Basketball Championship, averaging 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds.

Kyren Whittington, R-Sr., Tulane

Whittington scored 22 points against UTSA on 9-of14 shooting from the field. She added three rebounds and two steals.

Hadley Periman, Jr., G/F, Tulsa

Periman led the Golden Hurricane to a pair of wins averaging 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 blocks.
